“I wanted to express just how profound the sense of isolation is for so many during this time,” commented Fazzino. “So, i took some of the most famous paintings about sadness and melancholy and I put them all together in one fancy New York City apartment. They look out on a city that is fraught with anguish and heartbreak. I figured that when put all together, my work combined with these masterful paintings might just break the tip of the iceberg in expressing the horror of this time for my beloved home city. Covid is affecting everyone and it doesn’t segregate by race, class, or orientation. This will leave a scar on us all.”
Within the painting, Fazzino pays tribute to famous masters who have previously painted incredibly moving and dramatic piece conveying grief and despair including: Edvard Munch, Gustav Courbet, Pablo Picasso, and Rene Magritte.
