I was recently informed by a friend of mine about a new campaign launched by MusiCares, the charitable arm of the GRAMMY Awards Foundation. When i was asked to do the 3d pop art for the 2004 GRAMMY Awards, i had the great pleasure of working with them also.
Their formal mission statement says that “MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need.” Now THAT’s an understatement if i ever heard one. There are countless stories of lives saved and communities affected by the good works they do. Read about some of them on the website.
Recently, MusiCares launched a new fundraising campaign called “Be a Part of the Heart.” It’s ingenious really. All you have to do is donate a $1 to the cause and you can add your photo to what will end up being the world’s largest photo mosaic. If you’re on Facebook, you can “like” MusiCares at http://www.facebook.com/MusiCares and read about the project. Then donate and add your face to the likes of Bon Jovi, Rascal Flatts, Martina McBride, Selena Gomez….and ME! I did it too and i’m excited to see what the final piece looks like. Here’s the picture i added….me and Recording Academy President Neil Portnow at the unveiling of my artwork in 2004.
