Charles Fazzino was commissioned to be the official artist for the 100th Anniversary of the City of Fort Lauderdale. The Art Museum of Fort Lauderdale hosted Fazzino’s 100th Anniversary exhibition titled “The Faces of Fort Lauderdale.” The focal point of the exhibit was a set of ten plexiglass dioramas, each of which told the story in the life of a resident of Fort Lauderdale during the previous century. Each person, invented solely in Fazzino’s imagination, represented a different decade in history. A peek through the eyes in the foreground revealed the artistic presentation of the character’s story in the background.
Rounding out the exhibition were a series of original paintings in the typical Fazzino 3D style capturing the essence of Fort Lauderdale, both then and now. And finally, Fazzino added a sculptural presence to the exhibit with a couple of actual dioramas and “The Trash Can Sculpture,” which told the story of a trash can on Fort Lauderdale Beach and it’s contents, all of which were hastily thrown in by visiting beach goers fleeing from an oncoming hurricane.
